‘Midnight, not a sound from the pavement’…

>That is, unless ‘Cats’ star Erin Chupinsky is training for next the Boston Marathon

For Erin Chupinsky, rehearsing for a national tour isn’t too different from training for a marathon.

She would know. Chupinsky is touring the country performing in “Cats” and simultaneously training for the Boston Marathon.

“There’s definitely a routine to training for a marathon, a schedule and a method to the madness,” says Chupinsky, a swing performer who covers seven roles in the show. “And there certainly is for the tour as well.”

Chupinsky tries to run about six days a week, but it’s not a guarantee while traveling. It’s easy when the “Cats” tour performs in the same place for a week.

“It gets more interesting when it’s one-nighters and we drive on the bus all day,” she’s says. “When we stop for lunch I’ll just run wherever we are, hoping to find a neighborhood or sidewalk lining the road.”

Although Chupinsky says running is her favorite hobby, she calls performing her passion.

“They balance each other out really well, sort of ying and yang,” she says. “The running keeps me strong and healthy cardio-wise for ‘Cats,’ while the show helps me stay limber and ready to run.”

Chupinsky will run her sixth marathon next Monday, the day after “Cats” closes in Boston.
