What the ‘HONK!’ are you gonna do with your kids?

Though its message is for younger audiences, adults will get a kick out of Wheelock Family Theatre’s “HONK!” too.

“I liken it to ‘Shrek,’” says Cheo Bourne, who plays Ugly in the show. “It’s definitely for the young and old. Some of the jokes go right above the kids’ heads.”

The musical, a contemporary interpretation of “The Ugly Duckling” fairy tale, conveys a familiar moral.

“It’s got a good message, that there’s nothing wrong with being different,” says Bourne, who was born and raised in Dorchester.

“Kids will like it for the songs, the dance, the colors, the lights — all that jazz.”
